My mom’s friend knows I am a web developer and work well with Photoshop, so has asked me to create a banner for the Facebook page of her fan club. They are, for better or for worse, massive fans of the Kardashians.
Client: “I’ve done a quick sketch in pencil of what I want the banner to look like! Can you make that?”
Me: “I could, but you might want to reconsider the… well… name.”
Client: “But it’s the name of our group!”
Me: “I get that, but the placement of the text is a bit… well… Kim Kardashian Klub sounds fine when you say it, but written down as you’ve put it, with the capital letters all oversized like this… well…”
Client: “I don’t see the problem!”
Me: “It spells KKK, [Client’s Name].”
Client: “So?”
Me: “You, know who the KKK were… right?”
Client: “Are they another Kim Kardashian fan club?! Did someone beat us to the name?!”
Me: “Oh boy…”
I explained the history. She didn’t know, or care, and I had to decline to help her, with my mother giving me a lecture for ruining her friend’s week because of some “silly men from the past.”
